How Does Invisalign Work?

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional braces. Using a system of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign gradually shifts your teeth into place. Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners are removable, which means you can take them out to eat, brush and floss your teeth, or for special occasions.

Unlike traditional metal braces, the aligners are removable for eating and drinking. Plus, they’re comfortable enough to wear while sleeping! Just remember to brush your teeth before you put your aligners back on.

When worn as directed, they have a high success rate of straightening teeth. The best part is you’ll be able to see your smile progress each time you put on a new set of aligners!

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign is a clear, plastic aligner that is customized to fit over your teeth and move them into place. You receive a new set every two weeks until you’ve achieved your desired results. Every two weeks, you will switch out your old aligners for new ones to continue your treatment.

Invisalign is discreet, comfortable, and convenient. There are no metal brackets or wires to irritate your mouth and no food restrictions. In fact, you can remove the aligners when you eat so you can enjoy all your favorite foods without worry. Patients love Invisalign for its convenience. It’s also more hygienic than braces since you have to replace your aligners regularly and don’t have to deal with cleaning around teeth with braces.

Invisalign is also more comfortable than braces because there is no tightening involved. You won’t experience any soreness in your mouth either since the aligners are smooth and will fit tightly against your teeth. Aligners are also made from a durable plastic material that can withstand the normal wear and tear of daily life. They also fit more snugly than mouthguards, and as a result, they allow for better tooth alignment and faster progress with your orthodontic treatment.

Your dentist will use a 3D scan of your bite to create a treatment plan just for you. This plan will map out the movement of your teeth over the course of your treatment so that you can see exactly how your teeth are expected to move with each set of aligners. This ensures that you achieve the straight smile you’ve always wanted in the most efficient amount of time possible.

Preparing Your Teeth for Invisalign

Before beginning your treatment, your dentist will take x-rays of your teeth to determine whether Invisalign is right for you. Then, they will use advanced software to map out a precise treatment plan for your aligners. Next, you’ll wear each set of aligners for approximately two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move gradually—week by week until the final alignment prescribed is attained. You’ll visit our office about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages nine to fifteen months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
