At Pharr Road Dentistry, we provide dental crowns as a restorative dental treatment for decayed, damaged and worn teeth. Tooth crowns are a versatile solution that may be used to cover natural teeth or cap off dental implants. A durable and long-lasting restoration, tooth crowns can change the size, color, and function of teeth.
Dr. Keya Patel and Dr. Paul McDonald provide dental crowns in Buckhead, GA to restore balance to patient’s smiles. They always take each patient’s personal needs, goals and budget into account before helping them choose the right solution for their dental problems.
When Are Dental Crowns Needed?
Dental crowns are adaptable to the needs of each patient. Tooth crowns are used to:
- Protect damaged teeth: Patients can restore chipped teeth, broken teeth, and cracked teeth with a dental crown. Crowns protect vulnerable teeth and create a more balanced and sturdy bite.
- Cover a discolored tooth: If patients have a single discolored tooth, a porcelain dental crown can cap off the tooth while blending in with other teeth.
- Strengthen a tooth following root canal treatment: After a root canal, a dental crown may require additional support. A dental crown not only protects the weakened tooth but also helps to strengthen the bite.
- Cap off dental implants: As the final piece of a dental implant, dental crowns serve as prosthetic teeth. They help patients with single or multiple missing teeth restore the appearance and function of their smiles.
Dental Crowns in Buckhead, GA at Pharr Road Dentistry
To begin treatment, we take x-rays and panoramic scans of the teeth to determine crown placement. In order to prepare teeth for crowns, we will remove a small portion of the tooth enamel for each tooth. Then, we take digital scans to send to a dental lab. When the crown is being fabricated in a dental lab, we will provide you with a temporary tooth cap that is sealed to the tooth or teeth receiving the restoration.
Temporary crowns are typically worn for 2 to 3 weeks while the permanent dental crown is being fabricated at the laboratory. At your next appointment, we will remove the temporary crown and clean the tooth surface. We will also make any minor adjustments, checking the fit, shape, and color of the crown before permanently bonding the dental crown to the tooth.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are similar to dental fillings in that they cover the top of a damaged or weakened tooth. An inlay is designed to fit within the cusps of the tooth crown. Onlays are used to treat decay located on a large surface of the tooth and are often called partial crowns. Inlays and onlays are bonded onto clean and prepped teeth. They blend in with the rest of the patient’s smiles because they are made from white porcelain resin.
